Church of Sacred Heart of Jesus - Kadayal

Sacred Heart Church is situated in Kadayalmoodu, a beautiful village which is bundled with high mountains, low valleys, highlands, and plains. The people of Kadayal have a long standing tradition, rich heritage and conservative practices that still keep many of the vanishing Christian traditions alive.

History

During 18th century, missionaries from European territory had travelled miles to teach and guide Kadayal people that gave themselves confidence, Consolation and Protection. European missionaries made their way through Palliyadi Catholic Church. People have embraced Christianity, largely because of their humanitarian work.

Mr.Elias K (Kutty Bhuttan) had played a major role in the early stage. He had given place in front of his house to conduct the Holy mass. As Christians grow, devotees were in need of church, at last with the effort of Rev Fr Stanislaus OCD and the generous support from people, Sacred church was completed in 1925. The church bell was brought from Belgium.

Old Sacred Heart Church Kadayal

In the history of Kadayal Church, Rev Sister Marie Emin rendered a great service to the people. Staying in Ursulla's convent, she came by walk and spread God's words to Kadayal people. She was affectionately called as 'Mother' by all regardless of caste and creed.

Sacred church was a part of the parish of Kulasekharam and it was raised to the status of independant parish in 1965.Rev Fr.M.Mathias was appointed as the first parish priest of Kadayal.
