Hindu marriage connects two souls together and make them husband and wife for their rest of their life. It not only joins two individuals, it joins 2 families and friends. In Hinduism, marriage is followed by some traditional rituals for consummation. A Hindu marriage is not get complete until a valid consummation.

Hindu Marriage Terms

Hindu Marriages are registered under Hindu Marriage act , 1955.
  • Marriages solemnized under Hindu customs/ non-customary
  • Both the Bride and Groom should be Hindus, Buddhist, Sikhs .
Marriage Registration Procedure

  • Sub-divisional Magistrate - is the place where you have to a register your marriage under Hindu Act, on any working day under the jurisdiction of Bride or Groom. 
  • Get the application from the office, full and attach supporting documents with the proper sign of both Bride and Groom.
  • Once the application is submitted by verifying documents, they have been allotted a day for registration .
  • On that day Bride, Groom, Witness and the Gazetted officer who witnessed their wedding should present for their registration.
  • After completing all the procedures, Certificate will be release on the same day. 
Age
  • Bridegroom/Bride should complete 21 years
  • Groom should should complete 18 years  
Documents/Proofs to be produced for Registration.

  • Marriage Proof (Keep any of the following documents)
    • Wedding Invitation
    •  Temple Marriage Receipts
    •  Undertaking by the Person who solemnized the marriage.
  • Residence Proof
    • Aadhaar (Keep any of the following documents)
    • Employee ID Card
    • Ration Card
    • Driving License
    • Passport
  • Age Proof
    • Birth Certificate
    • School/College Transfer Certificate
    •  Passport
  • Witness Proof
    • Witness ID Card (Photo ID & Address Proof)
  • 2 Passport size photographs
  • 1 Wedding photograph

Hindu Marriages Registration Fees & Fines

There are certain Fees to be paid by the  Bride and Groom to register their marriage.
  1. Registration of Marriage : R.100.00
  2. For a certified copy of an entry in Hindu Marriage Register : Rs.50.00
  3. For making a search (if some one having doubt of their marriage registration)
    1. if the entry is of the current year : Rs. 10.00
    2. if the entry relates to any previous year or years (for each such year) : Rs. 10.00
  4. For Registering a marriage at any place outside the office of the Marriage Registrar to be appropriated by the Marriage Registrar in addition to the fee in entry (i) above :  Rs:50.00
  5. Application fees for registering a marriage at any place outside the office of the marriage Registrar : Rs.200.00
